College Commitments

The Bay State Sharks Fastpitch Softball Program is comprised of teams in the 10U, 12U, 14U, 16U, 18U and 18+ Age Divisions. The objective of the program is to emphasize hard work, goal achievement and team play. The program’s goal is to provide an enjoyable experience and encourages each girl to advance to a level commensurate with her talent and desire. Team rosters are first selected from residents of the Town of Bourne who participate in a tryout. However, if there are not a sufficient number of Bourne residents to field a team with appropriate roster size, the Travel Team will fill available roster spots with non-residents who participate in a tryout. For this reason, many of our team rosters are comprised of a diverse group of girls from multiple areas throughout the Southeastern Massachusetts area. These girls are committed to the game of softball. We strive for excellence and we learn from mistakes which enable us to compete against some of the best softball organizations each and every week.

The Bay State Sharks mission is to educate, encourage and promote the growth of girls softball while preserving the integrity of the game. We focus on total player development, building a tradition for the future of our girls, to improve their tactical and technical softball training, and most of all, team participation and camaraderie.

We seek to positively impact athletes by encouraging sportsmanship, respect for players, coaches, umpires, spectators and by providing these athletes the opportunity to achieve their potential.

We play "A" level Fastpitch softball and compete in ASA and PONY tournaments throughout the Northeast area along with the States and the Regionals.

We couldn't accomplish all that we have over the years without the hard work of all our players, volunteer coaches, and the support of the parents. Thanks to all of you who make our organization as strong as it is each and every day.

The Bay State Sharks offer year round training at local facilities and workouts are conducted by trained and seasoned coaching staff and consultants.

If you are interested in our program or have questions, please email baystatesharkssoftball@bourneyouthsoftball.com or contact Erick Anderson, Travel Team Coordinator, at erickwilliamanderson@gmail.com or Glen Gifford, Director of Player and Coach Development, at teamwazoo@comcast.net.

Always looking for quality players...

Tryout Information...

Tryouts are held each year in the August/September time frame. The teams, coaches and players are selected at this time for the coming season. Each player is asked to attend at least one tryout regardless if they have played the previous season since no position is guaranteed year-to-year. During the tryout each player will be asked to demonstrate skills in hitting, fielding, running, pitching and catching. The coaches will review and rate each player on these skills as well as watch the interaction with the other players and coaches during the tryout. Not all players that attend the tryouts will be offered a position on a team. During the selection process each Head Coach will select players meeting the needs of his/her team. Each player is notified by a face-to-face meeting, a phone call and/or email (Head Coach’s discretion). Acceptance and initial payment is required to hold a position on the team. A mandatory parent meeting will be scheduled sometime after players are selected to complete forms, hear about the organization and pay any required fees.

Parent Participation and Fundraising...

Parent opportunities are unlimited and very essential in running a well organized team. Just as the managers and coaching staff volunteer endlessly their time and efforts for the girls, so can each and every parent. An important point to remember is to ask your daughter’s Head Coach/Manager what they need. Helping where not wanted or needed, can cause confusion and complications instead of assistance. Each Head Coach/Manager determines the need for the respective team. Here are some examples of where you may offer assistance: help in running practice stations, team Moms, drivers, field maintenance, concessions, etc. Most importantly being a positive, supportive and enthusiastic fan.

Each year the Bay State Sharks play host to one or more fundraising tournaments, each team requires their parents to assist throughout the tournament with field coordination and concessions. Field maintenance also is an area that requires attention throughout the day. Parent participation at the tournament (concessions, field preparation, etc.) is required. Lack of participation may constitute additional fees.

Fund raising is a key element in running a successful program. Equipment, uniforms, entry fees, and field maintenance are all expensive. Each team may run team only fundraisers based on the individuals goals/needs of the teams.

Sponsorships are another key part of fundraising. Sponsors can be any business or individual who wishes to donate to the organization, individual team or specific player. Besides getting a possible tax deduction the sponsors may be honored in a variety of way, including their name on a team banner or their logo/name on our website with a link to the sponsor site.
